About Zhejiang
Zhejiang is situated in the southeastern coastal area of China,on the southern flank of the Yangtze River Delta, bordering the largest Chinese city of Shanghai. The province covers a land area of 101,800 sq. km. and in 2005 has a permanent resident population of over 47 million. It has 11 cities under its jurisdiction, namely,Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Quzhou, Zhoushan, Taizhou and Lishui.
Zhejiang has a well developed transportation network. The province boasts 7 railway lines including Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway and Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway, and 7 airports including those in Hangzhou and Ningbo. Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is the second largest port in China.
In 2005, the GDP of Zhejiang hit 1,334 billion Yuan, up 12% over the previous year. Zhejiang province is one of the most prosperous and dynamic province in China with per capita GDP exceeding US $ 3,500 and targeting US $ 5,000 in year 2010. Export-oriented economy in the province grows rapidly. In 2005, the actually utilized foreign investment of the province reached US $ 7.72 billion, and the import and export volume amounted to US $ 107.39 billion, ranking 5th in the country. |
